HOCKEY NAKS / HOCKEY SNACKS

Installation
Year: 2012
Mixed media (Cheese snacks, water, voice recording)

Hockey Snacks concerns the myth of masculine heroism. The recording used is a collage poem constructed from internet discussions on the culture of ice hockey. In the work, the heroism of the hockey rink is questioned through the suicide statistics of the NHL players hired as enforcers. The light helmet emphasizes the individual’s fragility in the face of the game’s machinery, raising questions about the fan culture’s seemingly religious rituals, where the Holy Bread is replaced by cheese snacks and the holy imagery with the toothless mugs of the players.
