JUMALAT CHATTAA / GOD CHATS

Installation
Year: 2012
Mixed media

In the installation God Chats white plaster arms push out from a closet that’s too narrow for a person, fingers stretching towards the viewer. Heads of gods made of polyurethane float in the air — buddhist protector Yama Dharmaraja, a frog-goddess Heqet and the god of wealth Dzambhala — each offering their protection. In a paper mache altarpiece, UFOs are landing on top of pyramids, while the altar itself is guarded by He-Man warriors cast from bee wax. The installation deals in the spirit of trash art with different systems of belief and the mixing of religion with popular culture.
